Our story so far:
In the early days of helping people find storage for their sports kit, we
realised a gap in the market that wasn't being met. Finding, comparing, and booking self storage units proved
frustrating, let alone in the evenings, weekends, or during a quick lunch-break. We heard from storage
facility operators about their struggles to reach potential customers and compete with larger companies,
particularly when it came to facilitating instant online bookings.
With extensive market research and user testing, Explorage emerged as the UK's leading self
storage marketplace, designed with both the genral public and storage operators in mind.
The next chapter:
Self Storage Booker.com is the next chapter in our story. Self Storage Booker.com came from a realisation -
our parent company's name, Explorage.com, was often mistaken for a travel website (we get it, explore).
When our founder, Anna Roberts, came up with the term, she tried out several
wordplays, and Explorage proved popular. However, as we began growing the business, we identified two key
issues.
1. People weren't sure how to pronounce it. She didn't expect so many people to want to put a French accent on
it! And, let's be honest, if you don't know how to say it, you're unlikely to remember or repeat it when you
refer us to friends and family.
2. Nobody had any idea what it did. We experimented with straplines and clever slogans, but the simple truth was that Explorage was difficult to sell from the outset.
So we went back to the drawing board and encouraged others to come up with additional "it does what it says on the tin" names, and selftsoragebooker.com won out.
Don't fear, Explorage.com will live on, and who knows, maybe one day it may be the name you choose when you need self storage. However, for the time being, it will be allowed to mature and grow at its own rate while selfstoragebooker.com takes the focus.
